Our Story
For more than 40 years, the Commerce Food Pantry has been here to help neighbors facing food insecurity.
The pantry was established in 1982 by Reverend John Enochs, Jr. as a mission of First Christian Church in Commerce, with the intention that the pantry would rotate among local churches. When it found its home at First Presbyterian Church, it stayed. What began as an emergency food pantry has evolved into a community resource providing local households supplemental groceries and personal care items and connecting them to additional resources.
In 2015, the Commerce Food Pantry received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and, in 2017, became an agency partner of the North Texas Food Bank, strengthening its ability to provide nutritious food to the community.
Over the years, leadership and organizational structure have changed, but one thing remains constant: the generosity of the Commerce community. Our community keeps our shelves stocked so we can welcome our neighbors and offer hope in the form of a bag of groceries.

We are grateful for the financial support, food donations, volunteer service, and encouragement we receive from caring individuals, churches, businesses, civic organizations, East Texas A&M University, and Commerce Independent School District.
We are also strengthened by the funding, resources, and logistical support of these community partners:
